अमेरिकी फर्स्ट लेडी के तौर पर आखिरी बार बोलते हुए मेलानिया ने एक वीडियो संदेश में कहा कि हर चीज में पैशनेट होइए लेकिन इस बात को हमेशा याद रखिए कि हिंसा किसी चीज का जवाब नहीं है और इसे कभी सही नहीं ठहराया जाएगा।6 जनवरी को ट्रंप समर्थकों ने अमेरिकी संसद पर धावा बोल दिया था। ट्रंप ने हजारों समर्थकों के बीच भाषण देकर बड़े पैमाने पर वोटर फ्रॉड के अपने दावे को दोहराया था और इस कथित फर्जीवाड़े को रोकने ले लिए समर्थकों को प्रोत्साहित भी किया था।
वैसे, मेलानिया ने हिंसा के एक हफ्ते के भीतर ही कहा था कि वह अपने पति के समर्थकों द्वारा की गई जानलेवा हिंसा से निराश और आहत हैं। हालांकि उन्होंने अपने पति या समर्थकों को संसद परिसर में जाने के लिए उकसाने में उनकी भूमिका पर कोई टिप्पणी नहीं की थी।ट्रंप को चुनाव में मिली हार से नाराज और खुद राष्ट्रपति द्वारा उकसाए जाने के बाद उनके समर्थकों की हिंसक भीड़ कैपिटल परिसर में घुस गई थी और डेमोक्रेट जो बाइडन की जीत को सत्यापित करने के लिए हो रही कार्यवाही को आंशिक रूप से बाधित किया था।
